Wicker already has an imagery, and it isn’t the right one: verandas, seaside houses, garden furniture. With that same technique, Bottega Intreccio makes contemporary design.
The starting point
A material with a saturated imagery is harder to reposition than an unknown one: the viewer has decided what they are seeing before they look. Shooting the pieces on a neutral ground would have solved nothing — it would have left them without a context, and the viewer would have supplied the usual one.
The direction
We took the pieces into real, contemporary homes: pink plaster, marble, herringbone floors, lacquered kitchens, architectural light. In those rooms the weave stops being folklore and goes back to being what it is — a material choice among others, with its own texture and its own light. One image stays on the seaside terrace, because the origin shouldn’t be hidden: it just shouldn’t be at the centre.

The interiors
Seating, screens, lamps, trays and baskets photographed where they live. The weave holds both the close-up and the whole room, which is the proof that the piece works at either distance.
